Remix vs Astrocade

Astrocade and Remix both turn a typed idea into a game and put it in a feed of short games. Astrocade is free and pays creators from plays. Remix asks for a paid plan to build with Remix AI, and adds live multiplayer rooms, a desktop app with code you can open, and AI trailers.

How They Differ

These two are the closest pair on our list. Both are feeds of short games made by players, both make a game from a sentence, and both pay creators.

The real difference is price against depth. Astrocade is free to make and play, so it is the easy place to try a dozen ideas in an afternoon. Creators there earn from plays.

Remix asks for a paid plan to build with Remix AI. For that you get live multiplayer rooms, leaderboards, cloud saves and achievements, a desktop app where you can open the code or bring your own coding agent, and an AI trailer for every game. One publish puts the game on the web, in our iOS and Android apps and in Remix Desktop.

Which to Pick

If you want to make lots of quick games and never pay, start on Astrocade. If you want friends to play your game together live, or you want to open the code and keep building, Remix fits better.

What Astrocade Does Better

  • Making and playing games is free, with no paid plan.
  • Creators are paid from plays, and there are game competitions every other week.
  • A large feed: its store listing claims over a million daily players and more than 1,000 new games a day.
  • Creators get plays, significant plays and session length for each game.
  • An MCP server lets coding agents such as Claude Code, Codex and Cursor build and publish games.

Where Remix Falls Short

  • Building a new game with Remix AI needs a paid plan. Free accounts can plan a game, or build one with their own AI coding tools and publish it free.
  • Games are web games. There is no export to Steam, consoles or a standalone app store listing of your own.
  • Remix is not a full game engine. There is no scene editor or visual scripting, so large projects are easier in an engine.
  • The Remix audience is smaller than the biggest platforms such as Roblox.

Questions

Is Astrocade free?
Astrocade says playing and making games is free, and it publishes no paid plan.
Is Remix free?
Playing is free. Building a game with Remix AI needs a paid plan. A Free account can plan a game, or build one with its own AI coding tools and publish it free.
Can I make a multiplayer game?
On Remix, yes. A game can open a live room and invite friends. Astrocade lets players share challenges and compare scores, but its own pages do not describe live multiplayer.

We make Remix, so read this with that in mind. Every fact in the table names the page it came from and the day we last checked it. If something here is wrong or out of date, tell us and we will fix it.
