Astrocade Alternatives

Astrocade is free and has a big feed, so most people look elsewhere for one of three reasons. They want live multiplayer, they want to edit the code, or they want to ship outside a feed. Here is where each alternative fits.

Why People Look for an Alternative

Astrocade is a good place to start: it is free, it makes a game from a sentence, and it pays creators from plays. People who move on usually want something it does not focus on, such as live multiplayer, code they can open, or a game they can ship to Steam or an app store.

We make Remix, so it is first on this list. The others follow in the order we would suggest them to an Astrocade creator.

What Astrocade Does Well

  • Making and playing games is free, with no paid plan.
  • Creators are paid from plays, and there are game competitions every other week.
  • A large feed: its store listing claims over a million daily players and more than 1,000 new games a day.
  • Creators get plays, significant plays and session length for each game.
  • An MCP server lets coding agents such as Claude Code, Codex and Cursor build and publish games.

The Alternatives

  1. 1. Remix

    $5 a month

An AI game maker and game feed: describe a game, play it, and publish it to the web, iOS, Android and Remix Desktop.

Best if you want to turn an idea into a game people can play on their phones today.

  2. 2. Rosebud AI

    Free to start · $15 a month

A browser game maker that turns a plain-language description into a 2D, 3D or voxel web game, with AI asset tools, free hosting and paid plans for code editing and export.

Best if you want to see and edit the code behind an AI-made game.

  3. 3. Websim

Free to start · Not listed publicly

A browser platform where you describe a game, app or web toy, an AI agent writes the code, and you post it to a feed where others play, comment on and remix it.

Best if you want to make browser games and web toys for free without setting anything up.

  4. 4. GDevelop

    Free to start · $7.99 a month

An open-source 2D and 3D game engine that uses visual events instead of code, with an AI agent that adds features to a project and free hosting on gd.games.

Best if you want to learn game making and own a project you can ship to Steam or the app stores.

  5. 5. Roblox

Free to start · No paid plan needed

Roblox Studio is Roblox’s free Windows and Mac editor for multiplayer 3D games written in Luau, with Roblox Assistant, an AI that plans, scripts and makes assets inside Studio.

Best if you want your game in front of Roblox’s players and plan to earn Robux.

Where Remix Falls Short

  • Building a new game with Remix AI needs a paid plan. Free accounts can plan a game, or build one with their own AI coding tools and publish it free.
  • Games are web games. There is no export to Steam, consoles or a standalone app store listing of your own.
  • Remix is not a full game engine. There is no scene editor or visual scripting, so large projects are easier in an engine.
  • The Remix audience is smaller than the biggest platforms such as Roblox.

Questions

What is the closest alternative to Astrocade?
Remix. Both make a game from a sentence and publish it to a feed of short games on the web and phones. Remix needs a paid plan to build with Remix AI.
Is there a free alternative?
GDevelop and Roblox are free to build with, and Websim and Rosebud AI have free tiers. Each is a different kind of tool, so check the table.

We make Remix, so read this with that in mind. Every fact in the table names the page it came from and the day we last checked it. If something here is wrong or out of date, tell us and we will fix it.

Try Remix With Your Own Idea
