Streaks got social
Duolingo didn't invent streaks, but they definitely weaponized them. The green flame works because missing a day hurts. We wanted that tension without the guilt spiral — so we added streak takeovers.
Claim a day on a friend's streak. Keep yours alive when you're traveling. Get notified when a takeover is coming for yours. It's petty. It's fun. It gets people back in the app for one more round.
Notifications that matter
We also shipped ending-soon alerts for sweepstakes and cleaned up the notification table so pushes actually reflect what happened. Less noise, more "oh right, I should play."
The claim flow got simpler along the way, and we fixed a pile of avatar bugs that were making streak screens look haunted. Small stuff, but streak features live or die on polish.
